More than 400 St. Çï¿ûÊÓƵ students worked year-round to surpass a fund-raising goal of $250,000 for the 10th anniversary of Dance Marathon on the St. Ambrose campus on April 23.
Additionally, more than 50 DM alumni turned out to celebrate the anniversary's Big Event and revel in the end-of-day Big Reveal. The $250,386 raised in 2022 brings the 10-year SAU Dance Marathon total to just shy of $2 million. Money raised by the SAU students has benefited the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network, while also assisting local children with long-term illnesses and their families.
Maitlyn Sanders, the 2022 event's Morale Director, said the anniversary event was both a motivation and cause for celebration for this year's DM team.
"Ten years is a big milestone with any program," she said, "so we really wanted to focus on how we've made memories and how we have created this legacy with St. Çï¿ûÊÓƵ. But we still wanted to focus on the kids, the fact that we're still supporting them is the hook for us."
Proceeds from the 2022 SAU Dance Marathon will be shared with the Ponseti International Association to train and educate healthcare providers on the treatment for congenital clubfoot.
