St. Çï¿ûÊÓƵ's KALA-FM was honored at the first-ever Iowa Broadcasters Association Station Awards in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 4.
The station received two recognitions. According to the Iowa Broadcasters Association, the radio and TV Station Awards were established, "to encourage the highest standards of reporting, community service and production creativity. It brings the ultimate prize-peer recognition to members of the broadcast industry in Iowa."
KALA-FM was honored with the award for "Community Involvement." This award is presented for public service activities coordinated by a station serving the community.
KALA-FM's General Manager David Baker was honored with the award for "Best Scheduled Broadcast Personality or Team" for 2023. This award is presented to a weekday or weekend personality or broadcast team. Baker's Friday evening radio program focusing on classic soul and R&B, "The Rewind," was recognized.
The Iowa Broadcasters Association has nearly 300 members in the state, including dozens of commercial and non-commercial broadcast radio and TV affiliates.
KALA-FM has been on the air for more than five decades. A learning lab of the St. Ambrose Communication and Digital Media Production Department, the station serves the Quad-City region with a variety of music and community service programming.
